The headlights on my 1989 convertible "stick" when I open or close them. Is there a point where they should be lubricated?
I checked the obvious wiring connections to make sure that they are not loose. Could the "sticking" be the result of a bad relay? How can I tell if the motors are bad? I appreciate all help/advise that I can get.

My 87 had one side sticking and sometimes wouldn't open or close. I lubricated the pivots with spray oil, and no problems since. Oil it regularly. Worth a shot before repairs.

Sounds like you need a motor gear/bushing rebuild - the gear and bushings are made on nylon and wear out - the parts can be ordered from Mid America , the gear can be replaced with a better brass one, not sure about the bushings if they are just nylon or a new material. They also, I think have a good instruction sheet on how to replace these bushings.
Actually the old nylon disentigrates over time.

One side of my 95 was sticking, motor stopped. The wires were hanging loose and touching the headlight as it flipped. I tied the wire down with piece of string so they were out of the travel area of the headlight and now they work fine.
If the headlight motor keeps running after the headlight has stopped, then your plastic gears are stripped and need to be replaced.
