I am a Brit who has just purchased a long awaited 1958 Corvette dream car. I have been scanning the internet for advice on a good engine oil to use in the beautiful old V8 engine. Any advice from owners of similar cars would be very much appreciated. I am only two weeks into ownership and I cannot stop smiling every time I look at this wonderful iconic car (-:

For older cars with the original engines it's important to note if when or if the engines were built or rebuilt the valve seats were hardened. If not then one must use a lead oil additive plus one that has high zinc levels to protect the crank shaft. Hemmings sells an engine oil that meets these requirements. In addition 20w-50 engine oils which are readily available have zinc additives. I prefer Royal Purple engine oil.
