retractable headlights 1990 Coupe

Why do the retractable headlights on my 1990 Corvette work perfectly in cold weather and become balky in hot weather. By hot weather I mean Arizona HOT!

First is to make sure they?re properly lubricated because metal, plastic etc. expands with heat and contracts with cold. So if not properly lubricated the heat-expanded parts may bind without a layer of lubricant to prevent it. Next is to make sure everything is properly adjusted and there are no worn parts. This can also be an issue that is heat related and activated by expansion. Finally look at the motors themselves to make sure they aren?t drawing too much current when they?re hot. Use a DVOM (Digital Volt Ohm Meter) to measure current draw during operation. If the current draw is high cool the motors to see if current draw drops within specs. If it does the motors are bad and yes they often fail two at a time. Posted by Administrator on 2/29/2016 4:24:46 PM
