I recently purchased my first Corvette. A 1971 T-Top.
Ever since I was a child I loved the look of the Stingrays - and since I was born in '71 this year seemed to be the logical choice for a car.
Anyway, I got my gem. I am the second owner of this vehicle. The interior is 'nearly' spotless. And aside from a transmission fluid leak which I just noticed today, mechanically she is fine. Even has the chalk markings on the frame numbering the factory welds.
But the paint sucks. 2 days after this lady bought the car (New in 71) she pulled it into a body shop and painted it black, as Chevy didn't make a black 71 'vette. From 15 feet away it looks great. But up close its terrible. They didn't properly prep the car and the original war bonnet yellow is coming through the chips. Plus there are the normal stress cracks on the front fenders and behind the rear bumper - so it also needs some VERY minor body work.
I am looking for a place near West Virginia that is reputable for corvette work. I am not going for the $60,000 restoration - as the car won't be in shows. This is my toy. But I want it to look good.
I've gotten quote from $3,000 to $10,000 to do a bumper to bumper paint job on the car - but none of those places specializes in Corvettes. I'm not looking for 40 coats of paint for a show - but I want it done right.
Can anyone recommend a place in or near to north central West Virginia (26201) that you would take YOUR vette to be painted?
